Re: OPEN AUDITIONS
Dear Talent-File Participant:
It’s time, once again, for Open Auditions! You are receiving this invitation because your Talent Packet information is active in our Talent Database. Now we’d like to know if you wish to audition for “speaking” roles. If your interests are in “Extra” or “Voice Over” work only, NO audition is necessary. We have your information and photograph: that’s all we need. Also, if you’ve auditioned for LDS Casting recently (within the last year) you don’t need to audition again. If you have not auditioned recently, are seventeen (17) years of age or older (see below), and wish to receive a rating in our Talent File, or to improve your existing rating, please read on.
ABOUT OPEN AUDITIONS
Open Auditions are for the purpose of issuing a “rating” to your abilities as an actor. It is also especially helpful as an opportunity for us to meet with you and get to know you. If we haven’t seen you recently at auditions — in the last two or three years — PLEASE COME! We’d love to be reminded of you! This will assist us with future casting needs in light of upcoming projects. You will not be auditioning for any specific role at this time.
CHILDREN & TEENS
We will not be “general auditioning” children or teens as the need for these is always specific by project. We do, however, encourage current photos and personal contact information for children and teens! If you are under 17 and would like to attend Open Auditions, you must submit a current and complete resume via e-mail first. Please write in the SUBJECT line: “OA Resume.” We will then determine your level of experience and, if it is substantial, will contact you to set up an audition appointment. (Please don’t forget to include contact information in your e-mail!)
SCORING
For those attending these auditions, you will receive a score from one to four based on the combined responses from our panel of judges. This panel will consist of myself along with at least two additional experienced casting directors, actors, directors, or university-level instructors who have achieved a professional level of expertise in the fields of film and/or theatre.
Please audition only if you have had dramatic training or experience.
Please bring your: • Current Headshot and Résumé –Yes, even if you’ve already sent one in.
• Current Temple Recommend (if adult)
PREPARATION
We ask that you prepare two contrasting monologues 1-minute (or less) each, OR one 2 minute (or less) monologue. You will be timed. Please adhere to the time constraints so we may see all those who have appointments. Your monologue(s) should be within your performing age range and may consist of any material you feel appropriate: It may be dramatic or comedic; from a film or a play. We discourage poetry or self-created material. Keep in mind that the best monologues are ones in which you, the actor, have a specific objective. Also remember that these auditions are for FILM, not stage. We ask that you prepare accordingly. No improvisations and no props, please.
A short Cold Reading will also be required. Please arrive early enough to look over the appropriate side before your scheduled audition time.
DATES AND TIMES
Open Auditions will take place at the LDS Motion Picture Studio in Provo, Utah.
The schedule is as follows:
Friday, October 10, 2008 • 12:00 noon - 8:00 pm.
Saturday, October 11, 2008 • 10:00 am. - 5:00 pm.
Friday, October 17, 2008 • 12:00 noon - 8:00 pm.
Saturday, October 18, 2008 • 10:00 am. - 5:00 pm.
TO SCHEDULE AN AUDITION
To schedule an audition, please e-mail us at: AVDCasting@LDSchurch.org (preferred), or call: (801) 370-9216 and leave a message. Please include at least three possible dates and times (in order of preference) you would be available to audition. Also, please include your Name, E-mail address, and Phone Number. When you are scheduled, you will receive an e-mail confirmation with additional information.
CHANGING OR CANCELING YOUR APPOINTMENT
If you need to change or cancel your scheduled audition time, please extend the courtesy of notifying us as soon as possible. Due to the high number of applicants we cannot guarantee there will be an opening available later in the day if you miss a scheduled appointment. Please do not make an appointment and then not attend. Besides being rude, it denies others the opportunity to fill that time.
If you arrive without a scheduled appointment, your information will be accepted but another audition date and time will need to be scheduled through the Casting Office. (This includes friends or extra members of a family who did not schedule an appointment.)
IF YOU ARE OUT-OF-STATE, OR CANNOT ATTEND
We recognize that many of you may live out-of-state and cannot attend these yearly auditions. If you would like to submit a video or DVD of your skills (as outlined above), please do so! We’d love to have your audition on file! Please postmark all such submissions by October 10, 2008. You may send your submission to:
AV Casting: Open Auditions, LDS Motion Picture Studio, 2230 North 300 West, Provo, UT 84604.
Thank you for your desire to share your talents! We hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Alisa F. Anglesey
